How to Add a Device Frame to Your Screen Recording
Step-by-step guide to wrapping your screen recording in a device frame and exporting a mockup video. Works for iOS, Android, and desktop.
You've recorded your screen. Now you need it to look like it's running on a real device — not a raw capture with taskbars and browser chrome visible. Adding a device frame turns a screen recording into a product demo, an App Store preview, or a social post worth sharing.
Here's how to do it with Mock.
What You'll Need
- A screen recording (MP4, MOV, or WebM)
- Your device's screen dimensions (Mock will show you these)
- An email address to receive your finished video
Step 1: Record at the Right Dimensions
The cleanest result comes from recording at the same resolution as your target device's screen. If you're making an iPhone 16 Pro mockup, record at 1206×2622. If you're on a MacBook Pro 15", record at 2880×1800.
Mock will resize your recording to fill the device screen, so close matches work fine — but exact dimensions mean no cropping.
Step 2: Upload Your Recording
Go to mock.video and upload your screen recording. Mock accepts MP4, MOV, and most common video formats. You can drag and drop or click to browse.
Step 3: Select Your Device
Choose from over 60 devices including every iPhone model, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, MacBook, and iPad. The device picker shows you the screen dimensions so you can confirm your recording matches.
Choose a model variant if more than one is available — color options, finish, etc.
Step 4: Set Orientation
Portrait or landscape. This should match how your recording was captured.
Step 5: Set the Background
Choose a background color for the area outside the device frame. The default is a neutral tone that works for most exports. Pro users can upload a custom background image.
Step 6: Enter Your Email and Export
Mock processes your video and emails it to you. Processing typically takes a few minutes depending on video length. You'll receive a download link or attached file once it's done.
Tips for the Best Result
Match your recording dimensions to the device screen. Check the screen dimensions shown in the device picker and record at that exact size if possible.
Use portrait for social. Portrait exports (9:16) are ideal for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Landscape works for Twitter/X and LinkedIn.
Remove the watermark with Pro. The free plan adds a small Mock watermark to your video. Pro removes it and lets you export at 2x quality.
App Store screenshots. Apple requires specific dimensions for App Store previews. Record at the exact device resolution and export at 2x for best results.
