Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions about accounts and using Mock. If your question isn't answered, please reach out to support.

How do I cancel my Pro subscription?

Thanks for helping support Mock! To cancel your pro subscription, simply click "Pro" in the header bar when logged in and then click "Cancel." Your current subscription will be good until the end of your current billing cycle. At that moment, your subscription will automatically cancel and you will no longer be charged.

How do I download my video?
expand_circle_down

Once Mock creates your video, you will receive an email. Depending on the size of the created video, you might receive an attached file or a link to your video. If the video is attached to your email, you should be able to download it like any other file right from your mail attachments. If the video is a link, you'll need to first make sure you are on a desktop or laptop computer and then right-click the link and choose "Save file as..." or your browser equivalent function.

What format should my password be?

Your password must contain all of the following: 8 characters in length. one uppercase character, one lowercase character, and one number.

How do I prevent my video from being clipped around edges?
expand_circle_down

Each device we make available for mocking has a different screen size associated with it. Mock will take the video you upload and resize it to cover the entire screen, even if it has to stretch the video or cut a little bit off one of the edges. The best way to prevent any clipping is by providing a video which is the same size (or ratio) as the device's screen. You can figure out what the screen size of your selected device is by looking beneath the device dropdown.

How do I create a video with a transparent background?
expand_circle_down

At the moment, Mock does not support transparent backgrounds in videos. This is mostly due to the lack of shared support in popular browsers for transparency in video. For example, Google Chrome has supported alpha transparency in WebM since 2013 but Safari has limited support for WebM. At WWDC 2019, Safari announced support for a new video format, HEVC with alpha, but they haven't provided tools to allow for easy creation outside of iOS. I also suspect the cross browser support to be limiting. This is what happens when browsers can't agree on supporting one format. Our current video format, the MP4, does not support an alpha channel.

One idea would be to add GIF or APNG as an export format option but the file size of animated image formats tend to bloat into something that isn't web friendly very quickly. A possible interim solution would be to look at the technique of using canvas and an additional alpha video to compose the transparency in real time.

I plan on keeping an eye on this space and continuing to think up alternate solutions for the problem.

What dimensions should my video have?
expand_circle_down

Each device requires a different video ratio to fit nicely when Mock creates your video. We follow the manufacturer's dimensions when deciding what size each screen is. If you're recording the screen directly from your device, it should already be in the appropriate format. If you need to know the screen dimensions for your particular device, simply look under the Device dropdown on the Mock creation form.
